Waimārama Bach

This project involved an extensive renovation and extension to an old bach on a beautiful flat section in the old part of Waimārama for a Wellington based family. The bach had quite a bit of character to start with including hipped roofs, broad eaves, timber weatherboards and internal wide T&G panelling. The idea was to increase its size to include a new kitchen, master bedroom and bathroom as well as a bunk room for the kids and open up the house to the afternoon sun with a timber deck and new flat lawn area - all whilst retaining the modest scale and character of this quintessential Kiwi bach. Existing mature trees were retained including an apple tree adjacent to the house which provides much need shade during the summer months. We are very pleased with the result.
